AfD MEP Maximilian Krah's Aide Arrested on Suspicion of Spying for China

German authorities have detained an assistant to a high-ranking member of the European Parliament for allegedly spying for the Chinese government.

The aide, who has not been named, was detained on suspicion of passing on information to Chinese intelligence, according to German media reports. The arrest is part of a wider crackdown on suspected Chinese espionage in Europe.

Maximilian Krah, the AfD MEP whose aide was arrested, is a vocal critic of China. He has previously accused the Chinese government of human rights abuses and economic espionage. In a statement, Krah said that he was "deeply concerned" by the arrest of his aide and that he would "cooperate fully" with the investigation.

The arrest of Krah's aide is the latest in a series of arrests of suspected Chinese spies in Europe. In recent months, authorities in the Netherlands, France, and the United Kingdom have all detained individuals suspected of working for Chinese intelligence.

The arrests have raised concerns about the growing threat of Chinese espionage in Europe. In a report published last year, the European Union's security agency warned that China was "a major threat" to the bloc's security.
