Diamondbacks Offense Fails to Impress at Coors Field, Falls to Rockies

Slow Start Dooms Arizona in Denver

The Arizona Diamondbacks offense continued its struggles on the road, failing to capitalize on the hitter-friendly environment at Coors Field in a 7-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. Arizona's offense had a chance to open the scoring early, loading the bases with one out in the first inning, but couldn't push a run across. The missed opportunity proved costly as Colorado scored three runs off Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly in the bottom half of the inning.

Kelly (11-6) allowed six runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings, his shortest outing since May 18. The right-hander has struggled on the road this season, posting a 5.40 ERA in 10 starts away from Chase Field. The Diamondbacks have now lost five of their last six road games.

Missed Opportunities Haunt Diamondbacks

Arizona's offense had several chances to get back in the game, but couldn't come up with the big hit when needed. The Diamondbacks stranded 10 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the first inning and stranding two runners in scoring position in the fifth.

Ketel Marte led the Diamondbacks with two hits, including a double, but Arizona's offense as a whole was held in check by Colorado starter Kyle Freeland. Freeland (6-7) allowed three runs on five hits in six innings, striking out eight batters.
